Swiss Fashion World - Swiss Icon: the Results

SFW_flyersfw_covers

I was kindly asked by the Swiss National Chamber of Fashion to hold a short speech at the fourth edition of Swiss Fashion World, a platform aimed to give voice to Swiss designers through several fashion events such as debates, fashion shows and more
The main topic of the fourth edition was Swiss World Fashion Swiss Icon, a project aimed to revisit the Swiss costume (see my first reportage on the project here). During the event, several costumes made by young Swiss designers and inspired by different Swiss regions were presented. The Swiss Icon was the ultimative creation of the project and it inclued the revisited tradition and taste of different Swiss cantons so as to represent one unique Swiss traditional dress.
Manuela Soldati, one of the young designers that partecipated to the project and member of the Swiss National Chamber of Fashion created the dress of the Swiss Icon. She chose to design it in one of the intearnationally best known Swiss fabrics: the
St. Gallen lace. She also added a tight collar, a corset and long balloon sleeves, elements that are in the costumes of all Swiss regions. She also used brass buttons that recall the national military costumes.
The traditional Swiss hat has been revised by the artist Corrado Nai Fovino, who developed a model that recalled some of the most majestic and known Swiss mountains: the Finsteraarhorn, Matterhorn, Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau.
Julia Bruderer, a young Swiss artist painted the image of the new Swiss costume, which you can see in the flyer above. See also her lovely reproductions from the booklet that was prepared for the event in the pictures below. You can also find my short presentation among them :)!
I was glad to partecipate to this cultural project that also helped young Swiss designers getting more exposure (see the collage made with the titles from several Swiss papers above).
A real praise to the made in Switzerland!
